Which points test does this calculator use?

This calculator uses the SkillSelect points test run by the Department of Home Affairs. Your SkillSelect score decides 189 invitations and whether you are eligible for the 190 and 491 visas. Every applicant needs at least 65 points. Some states then rank nomination applicants with their own system.

If you are applying for Victorian or ACT nomination, you need both a valid SkillSelect EOI and a separate state submission. A high SkillSelect score does not guarantee a high state ranking.

    Frequently asked questions

Does this points calculator work for Victoria state nomination?

It shows your SkillSelect points, which decide whether you are eligible for the 190 or 491 visa. Victoria then ranks Registrations of Interest separately using the Victorian Points Test, which scores age, English, experience, education, skill level, partner skill and Victorian earnings.

Is the Canberra Matrix the same as the SkillSelect points test?

No. The Canberra Matrix is the ACT Government's own ranking system for 190 and 491 nomination. You need a valid SkillSelect EOI first, then a separate Canberra Matrix submission. The ACT invites the highest ranked Matrix submissions in each occupation, based on available places.

Do I still need 65 points for the 190 and 491 visas?

Yes. Every 189, 190 and 491 applicant needs at least 65 points on the SkillSelect points test. State nomination adds 5 points for the 190 and 15 points for the 491. This calculator includes those nomination points.
